1000/100 Project Accepting Applications

We are now accepting applications for the 2005 Heritage and Cultural Tourism Leadership Training program. Fellows will be selected for demonstrated leadership in arts, historic sites, museums, natural resources, and from other cultural and community development organizations. Up to 150 Fellows will be selected from the following counties:

Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Dare, Edgecombe, Greene, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Pamlico, Pitt, Tyrell, Washington, Wayne, Wilson.

Additionally, applicants from the 2003 and 2004 counties served will also be accepted in 2005. These counties include Anson, Bladen, Brunswick, Chatham, Columbus, Cumberland, Davidson, Davie, Duplin, Forsyth, Guilford, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Rockingham, Rowan, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin.

Graduates of the program will have the resources, training and networking to become leaders in heritage and cultural tourism development and marketing in their community.

Tuition and Scholarships

The tuition for each participant is $350. It covers workshop instruction, educational materials, refreshments, and lunch. Participants are responsible for their travel expenses to and from each session.

Progress Energy Scholarships cover all or partial tuition for some selected participants in Hoke, Robeson, Scotland, Bladen, Columbus, and Sampson counties. In addition, we are seeking some scholarship funding to cover tuition expenses for selected participants in other counties who could not afford to participate otherwise. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please indicate the amount you are requesting below and attach a letter indicating your need for financial assistance. Applicants without demonstrated need will not be considered for assistance. Scholarship requests are kept confidential.

There are a limited number of scholarships available. To be considered, applicants should complete the scholarship request section on the online application form below or the printed application form (PDF), attach a letter indicating your need for financial assistance and submit this with your application materials.

I understand the goals and objectives of the 1000/100 Project and if selected to participate as a Fellow, I will pay a nonrefundable tuition deposit of $75 by May 15th, 2005 and the remaining $275 by the first day of the first workshop.
